This Directorate was created in 1984, when it was upgraded from a small Branch Office of the Mutrah Municipality.
For administrative convenience it is divided into four districts:.
- Al Amerat.
- Wadi Hatat including Al Nahdha City.
- Al Sidirat.
- Al Hajar.
There are also Branch Offices of the Municipality in Yiti and Al Nahdha City.
The Directorate extends over a wide are, much of which is mountainous territory, bisected by deep valleys. Near the coast there are extensive date-palm gardens, irrigated by falajs in recently-settled villages and housing developments. A notable landmark in the region is the Satellite Earth Station Complex at Al Amerat. |
