This Directorate was created in 1984, after beginning as a Branch Office of Muscat Municipality in 1977.
Bausher was among the first to be extensively developed and modernized with the constraction of Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos, Wattayah, Qurum Heights, Information city, Al Khuwair, the Ministries and Emabassies Districts and Shati Al Qurum. At the same time, previously settled areas were replanned at Al Ghubra North and South, Al Azaiba, Bausher villages, Al Ansab, Old Ghala and Ghala Industrial District. Modern landmarks include the 14 Government Ministry buildings, the Embassies area, the Scouts and Guides Headquarters, the Oman Women Association, and other Government offices and institutions. There are general and specialist hospitals such as the Royal Hospital and Khoula Hospital and the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, the Al Fateh Stadium and the Royal Oman Police Stadium.
The area also contains the Headquarters of Petroleum Development Oman, Mina Al Fahal, and the Gulf, Intercontinental, Grand Hyatt Muscat and Holiday Inn Hotels. |
