It works to raise the standard of awareness among consumers with regard to health and food safety matters and ensures the fitness of foodstuff for consumption and work against adulteration and fraud of foodstuff.

To launch awareness campaigns by publishing pamphlets and organizing lectures and seminars and initialing audio and visual media.

To coordinate with health affairs departments in Muscat Municipality with regard to food inspection and monitoring of different food handling stages from farm to table to ensure food safety and compliance with health regulation for food handling.

To receive consumer complaints with regard to food safety and adulteration through the hot line 80077222 or email: Consumer@mm.gov.om and take the proper action by coordination with the relevant departments.

To conduct studies researches and opinions surveys in the field of consumer goods and food safety and recommend proper solutions.

Take proper measures by coordination with the proper departments to stop violation based on food law and regulations to protect the consumers on the basis of scientific evidence and test reports by: Imposing fines issue prohibition notices and close down the firm for a period depending on the reoccurrence of violations.

Imprisonment in case of recurrence of violations. Publishing the name of the shops that sells unfit foodstuff.

To submit recommendation to issue legislations to ensure consumer safety and environment protection.

To strengthen relations and coordinate with the authorities concerned in the Sultanate and abroad with regard to consumer protection.
