Introduction

The Slaughter house provides services for all citizens & residents in the Sultanate of Oman , it was established & operated in the end of the seventies . It provides its services according to the regulations & the hygiene conditions issued by the Municipal Council & Muscat Municipality .

Vide the Local ordinance NO. (29/95) & the Administrative decision NO. (75/97)

The Central slaughter house provides it service in general all through the year without stopping and the work reach its apex during Ramadan Month , the Greater Eid and other holyday Events , average daily slaughter 350 heads of goats & sheep whereas during special occasions slaughters reach more than 2000 head / day .

The Main Services provided by the Central Slaughterhouse are as follows :.
  •  Regulates slaughter of livestock .
  • Ensure providing useful meats for human being consumption .
  • Inspection and control of livestock diseases that can be transmitted to human being.
  • Protecting the environment against pollution .
  • Recycling the livestock leftover in correct scientific methods for financial goals .
  • Providing enclosures for keeping livestock to the desirous companies

Work Schedule of the central Slaughter house

The central Slaughter house works all through the year with one shift (from Saturday up to Friday ) work commences at 6.00 am and ends on 1.00 after noon .

Regarding occasion days , Eid AL Fiter & Adh ha and Ramadan month the work is done by two shifts .
  • Morning period , allotted for citizens & the residents starts from 7.00 am till 1.00 after noon .
  • Evening period allotted for companies , citizens & residents , it starts from 8 :00 am till mid night .

Work Mechanism at the Slaughter house

Individuals

The visitor brings his sheep or purchase it from the slaughter enclosures and delivers it to the concerns at the slaughter house after paying the slaughter fees , he receives his slaughter code number . this number facilitating the following up during delivery process . in case the slaughtered livestock purchased from the slaughter enclosures is not healthy fit , the purchaser will be compensated with another livestock without additional fees , this services provided by the livestock companies to encouraging Slaughtering in the Central Slaughter house .

Companies & establishments

All livestock companies bring its livestock with effect from 5:00 PM for being in quarantine for 12 hours , in the morning the veterinarian carry out initial inspection on all the livestock and rejects the un fit livestock . all healthy livestock will be transferred for slaughtering checking & and delivered to the clients according to the code number ,proving that meat should be transferred by special vehicles with the required hygiene conditions .

The veterinarian carrying out checking of the livestock before slaughtering ,any sick cases will be excluded , only fit livestock will be slaughtered .

Delivery and livestock numbering

All the slaughtered livestock will be delivered to the clients according to the code number given to facilitate following up and sorting out each slaughtering .

Slaughtering of livestock according to Islamic Sharia Rules

All livestock is slaughtered according to Islamic sharia rules , all sanitary conditions will be considered regarding the slaughtering tools, hygiene of the butchers .

Preparation of the slaughtered livestock , cutting the legs & forearm and then removing of the leather by specialized equipment , then removal of The intestine & the bowels .It is check ed by the veterinarian to ensure its suitability to human being consumption final stage all slaughtered livestock will be washed to remove any contamination .

Cutting & Delivery

After finishing all the preparations and arrangements , the client is called according to the code number he have , the mutton is cut according to the client wish .
