| The geographical Information Systems is defined as systems for collecting , entering treating ,analyzing , displaying & issuing of location& description for serving special objectives depending on specific conditions & standard . it supports for planning & decision making , it has the advantage of Layers technology in addition of representing the infrastructure for any town through what is called the geographic layers of the Information bases along with the Query , the Geographical Information Systems combines between the inquiries ,the watching process , the analysis & treatment of the geographical Information from the drawings , the satellites & the aerial photographs , which is the characteristic that distinguished it from the normal Information System and make it available for all applications for interpretation of a lot of events and accounting the indexes and accordingly setting out of the strategies . the need of using the Geographical Information application increases in different fields & specializations such as the Constructional planning , environment protection , land use , management of utilities & ect……. . |
| Muscat municipality has applied the Geographical Information System long ago through the Geographical Information System department which is responsible for setting up the necessary strategies for the application of the Geographical Information System .and to find out the means ,& the suitable programs for operating , modification & maintenance of these applications according to the municipality units , the department aims to make the Geographical Information System effective apparatus for facilitating and hasting of the municipal works and for contribution in decision making regarding planning of infrastructure projects in Muscat Governorate . |

| The use of the application & the Geographical Information System print out is not limited to Muscat Municipality Units , there are some initiatives aiming to make the Geographical Information available for all . through execution of some projects such as issuing of Muscat Service Plan , Muscat digital detector and designing electronic web site for Geographical Information System for Muscat Governorate in the Internet . |

| It is CD disc containing digital plan program for Muscat Governorate operating by the layers of geographical Information System , it includes information about the regions , residential areas , main& internal roads , tourism , historical & service milestone with its different classifications , the program was designed in biangular language Arabic & English to help the user to find out the road & other milestone sites in addition to the government utilities and to provide easy access in short possible time & nearest route . |
