It was established in 15/3/1967 , it head OFFICE IS Kuwait , Muscat became a member in it on 1971 , in its capacity as the Sultanate Capital City and the largest town in Oman , Muscat availed it membership to establish & consolidate strong bond of foreign relations with the United Nations Organizations such as UNISCO , the United Nation Center for human colonies , U. N Fund for population Activities ,the Economical &Social Committee for Asia West (ESCO) . |

Arabian Towns Organization Prize :

Muscat Municipality participate effectively in the Arabian Towns Prize , its location is Doha .Periodical nominations will be sent to the headquarter at Doha . The Municipality is able to achieve leading stages in a lot of architectural competitions , beautification , landscaping & the environmental awareness , the Municipality awarded the following prizes :
- First prize for the architectural project in 1995 regarding building of foreign Affairs
- First Prize for the architectural project in 1955 regarding Muscat Municipality headquarters .
- First prize for City beautification in 1995 .
- Second prize for landscaping in 1995.
- First prize for Towns Beautifications IN 1997 for Sohar City .
- Second prize for the Environmental Awareness in 1997 for Muscat City .

| The institute was established in 1980 at Riyadh city ,to cover the high needs detected by the concerns in the Arabian cities to have specialized scientific apparatus to take the scientific , cultural &technical responsibilities in the field of towns & municipalities ..Since the establishment of this institute it provides the technical advices to the Arabian towns including Muscat city . The said Institute also organizws Seminars , scientific conferences and the training courses to raise the ef Competency of the Municipalities concern in the field of technical& administrative fields . |

Capitals & Islamic Towns Organization

This Organization located in Holly Mecca , its secretariat general located in Jeddah Kingdom of Saudi Arabia ,Muscat Municipality joint its membership in 1980 in its capacity as Capital of the Sultanate . The main objective of the Organization .
- To build strong bond of friendly relationship between the Arabian Islamic towns & capitals .
- Developing Co-ordination &co-operation between the Capitals & Islamic towns .
- To achieve systems & comprehensive constructional drawings for directing the capital& Islamic towns growth according to its financial, ,social ,cultural & environmental location .
- Putting more efforts to improve the services level and public utilities in Capitals & Islamic towns .

Capitals & Islamic Towns Organization Co-operation Fund
|
Muscat Municipality contributed in this fund with U.S.A $(2500) annually. The objectives of this Fund are :
- Supporting the development projects for capitals & Islamic towns aiming to developing & raising the service quality & the public utilities .
- Supporting the protection& maintenance works for the heritage milestones of civilization value in the Islamic history , the support is to supplement the concern authorities without replacing it .
- Support & encourage the scientific & technical researches in the field concerning the municipalities .
- Support & consolidate establishing vocation training centers for developing the individual skills necessary for Municipalities works , in particular works regarding making maintenance to the heritage milestones.
Moreover Muscat municipality link with continuous co-operation with number of regional &International Organizations for exchange of information such as Gulf Engineering Association , Arabian Organization for Administrative development attached to Arab league organization .

Friendship & Twining

Twin process always established between towns having joint civilization and Cultural heritage for expressing certain private relationship between the local administrative Establishments in the two cities having this type of linking and to open for wide co- operations and good connection between the two departments , through exchange of information &experience and making use of the training opportunities , and exchange of employees through second handing and exchange of visits between the responsible , making use of training chances and be aware of the administrative technology used in providing the local services in cities connected by friendly convention .
Muscat Municipality signed some c friendly &twining documents with some of her counterparties of Arabian towns including Great Amman Secretariat capital of Jordon Kingdom . , bilateral co operation convention was made between them in 12/2/1986, also another twin convention was signed in Cairo on 24/may/1992 Cairo as capital of Egypt &Muscat , this is considered a another experience in the field of twining was held with Casablanca at Morocco Kingdom , the frame work of twining between the two towns was make in 1984, but the official signing was not done .
Muscat Municipality made another co-operation agreement with Tunisia Municipality dated on 26/1/1995. not only this but also the municipality has good relationship with number of regional& International towns specifically towns & capitals joining under the umbrella of Capitals& Islamic Towns Organization Co-operation.
