General Functions of Awareness and Guidance Department.

• Putting the awareness and guidance strategies to ensure that the awareness message reaches to all the members of the community.
• Performing studies based on scientific basics for the negative phenomena that appear in the community to determine its causes and reasons, which affect the health of the environment and the community, in addition to laying down the appropriate awareness and guidance programs that confront these phenomena according to the results of this study.
• Arranging and producing the guidance tools and awareness programs to achieve and spread the environmental awareness between members of the community.
• Confronting the negative phenomena that are strange to the Omani community, in addition to laying down the appropriate awareness programs to prevent the spread of these phenomena in the community
• Following the execution of the domestic orders concerning the environmental health and studying the obstacles that hinders its execution.
• Working on arranging awareness tools for addressing the foreign communities residing in the Sultanate.
• Participating in the occasions and environmental, social & religious events for the benefit of the awareness objectives.

Tasks of awareness & guidance offices in the directorates

• Probing for the real needs of the directorates in the field of awareness & guidance.
• Observing any negative phenomena that appear in the locality frame of these directorates, in addition to putting the plans and programs that can eliminate or decrease these phenomena in coordination with the awareness and guidance department in the municipality headquarters.
• Applying the programs according to its annual working plans and presenting periodical reports about the achieved works in this context to the awareness and guidance department in the municipality headquarters.
• Informing the awareness and guidance department in the municipality headquarters about the news of guidance activity in these directories to receive the required media coverage
• Participating in arranging the journalistic and TV guidance programs in coordination with awareness and guidance department in the municipality headquarters.
• Coordinating with the schools, clubs and the Omani Women’s Associations, as well as the other governmental and national organizations within the work field of these directories and executing the different guiding campaigns according to the previously arranged plans and programs.
• Participating in arranging and executing the studies about negative phenomena in coordination with awareness and guidance department in the municipality headquarters.

• Producing awareness Cartoon movies for the children that were displayed on the Omani TV Stations.
• Organizing workshops for the mothers and girls through the schools & women qualifying centers about the recycling of household wastes and reusing it in a beneficial way to contribute in reducing the household wastes and maintaining the environment.
• Displaying awareness, guiding caption on the display screens at the cinemas in different language about (non smoked tobacco), the healthy damages and the legal punishments for circulating this material.

Reaping the Awards

• The best environmental works award: in the competition of GCC countries for the best environmental works, year 2007/2008. The award was received on 2009.
• Muscat Municipality won the second award of the environmental awareness in the competition of the Arabian cities organization award year 1996 deservedly. This award should be added to the list of awards that have been won by the municipality in the award competitions of the organization during the last years; as the municipality received a silver shield and a certificate of appreciation at this award on 1998.
