The Central Slaughterhouse Slaughters 7169 Animals During Eid, And An Intense Campaign For Carcasses Wastes
Dr. Shawki bin Abdul Rahman Al-Zadjali, Deputy Manager of Department of Slaughterhouses in Muscat Municipality that during Eid Al-Fitr, the Central Slaughterhouse slew 7,169 animals of sheep, rams, cows and camels. This was encouraging compared to previous years despite the lack of supply and increase in demand as well as constantly high prices that the buyers had hoped, especially for the prices of sheep and rams, which continue to grow, both in or outside the slaughterhouse pens during the days of Eid, regardless of the huge number of visitors of the slaughterhouse, represented in citizens, residents and companies.
The total number slaughtered sacrifices during the Eid 6,878 sheep and rams, 288 cows and only 2 camels. The executed animals for lack of suitability for human use reached 9 animals and 194 due to the liver.
Facilities
Dr Shawki Al-Zadjali explains that the slaughtering by the visitors of the slaughterhouse continues due to the constant attention and speed of delivery everyone experiences in all the services provided to customers and as a result of the continuous encouragement by various governmental bodies to urge livestock supplying companies and organizations. They are hoped for rapid response to the growing and fundamental demands to increase the quantities of cattle and decrease prices of live and fresh meat, in particular these of sheep, rams, cows and camels. They are also demanded for bringing and selecting the best and finest products in order to satisfy the customers who are used to slaughtering and purchasing such animals from the pens in the central slaughterhouse or from suppliers of live animals.
Demand Of Larger Quantities
"There are significant efforts made during Eid and Holy Ramadan. Further efforts are now being carried out by all governmental bodies to facilitate bringing more livestock. We, therefore, appeal to suppliers to bring larger and better quantities of livestock" said Dr. Shawki, in respect of the efforts undertaken by all the different governmental entities, represented in Muscat Municipality to bring larger amounts of livestock to the pens of the slaughterhouse.
Automated Body
Locations have been habilitated and slaughter rooms in the Central slaughterhouse have been prepared, in addition to the electric and mechanic machinery operating in the slaughterhouse. All the used equipment was maintained and old parts were also replaced by updated ones. Moreover, an automated device for skinning cattle skins was installed. This device capacity was tested. It has facilitated achievement in no time and saved a lot of time for both butchers and the cow owners.
Veterinary doctors have exerted great efforts during veterinary examination of various types of livestock received by the slaughterhouse. Also, animals were examined before and after the slaughtering process to ensure that they are completely disease free and that meat fit for human consumption is provided.
Food Inspection
Health control bodies working under of the departments of Health Affairs in the directorates of Muscat Municipality have intensified their work during the blessed Eid Al-Fitr. In respect of health and food safety, inspection and food control departments have intensified their inspection visits to food organizations that had considerable turnout prior to Eid according to a special round-the-clock program to ensure the well-being and safety of the amounts of food they contained to ensure access of healthy food products, free of contaminants, to the consumer. These organizations include shops selling meat, desserts, nuts and food products, in addition to refrigerators and food warehouses.
Sanitation And Remnants Of Eid
In terms of the city sanitation and civilized appearance during the blessed EID AL-FITR, Sanitation Sector has intensified collection and transportation of wastes and remnants. A work handling team was created in the sanitation sector and transportation of wastes from all residential districts, focusing on public premises, celebration squares and mosques the Eid prayer would be held to avoid waste accumulation at sites of the containers according to a special program designed for this purpose. The teams got down to work at specific times, starting exactly at 9:00 pm on the eve night of Eid till 1:00 am in the morning of the first day of Eid. Work, also, was resumed from 8:00 am till 1:00 pm on the same day in order to ensure regular and constant moving of wastes. On the second day, work started at the previous usual times: from 4:00 am till 12:00 am. Carcasses wastes and residues were moved to special landfill sites.
Furthermore, in the pest control sector, the municipality has also set a rotation programs for pest control teams working around the clock throughout Eid Al-Fitr, spraying of breeding and collecting sites of insects, which include waste collection containers, slaughtering premises and watersheds.
