Muscat Municipality carries on implementation of Bawcher and Footbridge duplication
Muscat Municipality carries on implementing the duplication of Bawcher road extending from the sixth intersection in Muscat Expressway till Jal roundabout opposite the Muscat Private Hospital, which is a focal point to facilitate and streamline the traffic in Bawcher, especially as it is witnessing the implementation of investment projects and commercial up-to-date buildings, which will reflect on traffic in the future phase.
Footbridge
The project, which has reached advanced stages of completion, includes duplication of the street in both directions with a total length of about 2 km2 and a width of 3.65 m for each path, in addition to external shoulders 2 m wide, and the creation of a pedestrian walkway on each side 2 m wide, as well.
Currently, final construction touches are now being added to the implementation of a footbridge opposite of the school of Imam Muhanna bin Sultan in Bawcher. This footbridge is considerably important for pedestrians to move between both directions easily and smoothly. The footbridge has been implemented in the middle of the area, being rich in educational organizations and commercial and urban activities. It also serves all pedestrian categories in addition to persons with special needs. It is provided by all the required safety means.
Traffic Lights
The project includes also implementation of a traffic light at the intersection leading to Al-Mona Heights area to serve Phase IV in Bawcher, Ghala and Al-Ansab, while Jal roundabout opposite Muscat Private Hospital will remain unchanged on its current status with the addition of a free path for free turn from the right and the expansion of the roundabout, with establishing a U-turn for the vehicles coming and wishing to return to Muscat Expressway. This significantly, in turn, relieves the pressure on the existing roundabout, and achieves high efficiency regarding the performance of the roundabout and the smooth flow of traffic.
An idea of the project proposes to set up traffic lights on Jal roundabout, while the study has made clear that the idea of setting up traffic lights on the roundabout was technically in vain. The nature and status of the roundabout is much better.
All electricity poles, located on the East of the road, have been converted into ground "cables". However, in the coming days, the road will be enlightened again commensurate with the new expansion, beside the establishment of a modern sewage system network for rainwater drainage along the route.
Enhancement of Traffic Efficiency
Through this project in Bawcher/Al-Ghubra, the municipality aims at enhancing and improving the efficiency of traffic, stressing that this area is witnessing heavy traffic fact since the road links the commercial zone in Bawcher with Sultan Qaboos main Street, Muscat Expressway, The Royal Hospital and Ghala Industrial Zone, in addition to Al-Azaiba, Al-Ghubra and the roads leading to the Al-Khuwair area.
