Muscat Municipality Implements 4010 Visitations Resulting In Issuance Of 144 Violations

Muscat Municipality has recently carried out 4010 inspection visits to the stores and food facilities resulted in issuing 144 health violations for non-compliance of some facilities to the hygienic practices, the controls and laws governing this aspect and by sanctions and the sanctions and procedures described in local order No. 1/2006. This comes within the framework of periodic inspection programs of all the inspection and food control departments in the Directorates General of Muscat Municipality.

 

Destruction Processes

The inspection campaigns have resulted in destroying 344 kg and 245 boxes of various foods, unfit for human consumption and unusable 11 cooking utensils and hairdressing tools were also destroyed. The laboratory has also examined 15 samples. The specialists in health inspection departments at Sultan Qaboos Port and Muscat International Airport paid 127 inspection visits during which 20 kg of cream powder were destroyed. Moreover, a store for selling bakery products was also closed. 3 permits for companies seeking to promote their products in commercial stores were issued after ensuring the safety of the promoted food.

The inspection and food control department in the Directorate General of Muscat Municipality in Bawcher carried out inspection campaigns targeting food selling stores in Ghala Industrial Zone.

 

Assessment Campaigns

Relevantly, inspection and food control departments are currently carrying out intensive field campaigns to assess men barbershops and hookah cafes to be aware of their health status and compliance with the approved health requirements related to the activities of public health and review the technical requirements of the premises, in addition to checking the health conditions of workers and their health cards to raise the health level of the different stores and develop the services provided to the consumer.

 

The inspection and food control department of the Directorate General of Muscat Municipality in Bawcher also carried out inspection campaigns during the evening targeting hawkers of fish.

The specialists in the inspection and food control department in the management of the central market of Al-Mawaleh for vegetables and fruit paid intensified visitations, issuing 22 health violation notices for the breaching stores, besides destroying 9807 boxes of rotten vegetables and fruit; the visual inspection proved wilting, rot and internal blackening.

 

A Course For Inspectors

As part of the training and rehabilitation of human resources undertaken by Muscat Municipality, the special workshop on "New Health Requirements" held during 15th-19th September was resumed for the second group. The workshop aimed to provide food inspectors with the most important skills, necessary to apply the requirements of health, thus raising the health level of food facilities.
