The Muscat Municipality begins the “Dar Sit-Wadi Kabir” road project

The beginning of expansions to the end of the Qaram Heights Road in the Dar Sit region

Survey of the service lines affected by the project and determining their paths

The Muscat Municipality has begun to implement the Dar Sit-Wadi Kabir Road project in the framework of its plan to alleviate traffic bottlenecks in the Rawi region and its vicinity due to its importance to local infrastructure. The project includes overpasses and tunnels for vehicles to pass along the Dar Sit – Wadi Kabir Road and building up all other junctions connected to the same road due to the density of traffic on Bayt Falaj Street and its intersections, beginning from the end of Qaram Dar Sit Heights all the way until the Wadi Kabir roundabout. Most of this traffic is continuous from the beginning to the end of the road.

The municipality will also begin to break up mountain canals to expand the end of the Qaram Heights Road in the Dar Sit region to alleviate bottlenecking during rush hour. It will also cut off traffic heading to Dar Sit and Wadi Kabir from traffic heading toward Matrah and Muscat with dedicated lanes in each direction as is the case in the other direction with traffic coming in from Wadi Kabir and Dar Sit toward Qaram.

The municipality has also begun to survey the paths of service lines affected by the project and to determine how to divert them.

The project also includes the expansion and extension of the overpass at the intersection near Hassan Bin Thabit School, crossing over the intersection in front of the Cinema Stars building.

It will also build a new tunnel for  vehicle traffic crossing through the intersection in front of the Sheraton Oman hotel. A four-way traffic light will be installed above the tunnel to distribute the flow of traffic along surrounding roads. Either a tunnel or overpass will be built on the Wadi Kabir roundabout, turning it into a four-way traffic light. Two pedestrian bridges will also be built above the road.

The project will be equipped with all means of traffic safety, lighting, and drainage.

A comprehensive traffic study will be conducted in the coming days on this road and the surrounding streets and intersections to determine the most ideal way to distribute traffic and make it flow more smoothly, taking into account future traffic growth. The results will be used in development and prospective additions to the project through 2036 (AD). The project will be carried out with the highest international standards, according to the Omani Model Road Design guide.
