Muscat Municipality close 34 shops and issues 184 police report in Upper Matrah
The Department of Health Affairs in the General Municipal of Muscat in Matrah closed (34) shops and issued (184) police report through (1613) inspection visits carried out by specialists of inspection and controlling at food departments to restaurants, cafes and shops selling meat and other goods related to the health and safety of food during March.
The aim of the inspection campaigns is to focus more directly on the activities of commercial consumer complexes to raise the level of health in businesses and make sure of the expiration dates of the offered food, and monitoring the implemented methods of keeping foodstuffs and make sure also to get rid of non-fresh Food and to not offer it again to customers the next day, the focus was on shops selling meat to make sure to which extent they use methods of conservation and appropriate storage and the extent of compliance with the health requirements and fighting against commercial fraud in order to protect consumer health and safety.
Those visits resulted in issuance of (46) Certificate of destroying food unfit for human consumption which resulted in destroying (1041) kilograms of meat, (314) kilograms of vegetables and fruits, 355 kg of cooked food, (1224) packages of varied food, (622) cans of soft drinks.
The General Directorate of Muscat Municipality in Matrah is making unremitting efforts to follow up on goods not conforming to approved standards and assuring the match of production and expiry dates of food, the visits program will continue until the completion of visiting all the commercial establishments related to the health and safety of food
