Muscat Municipality achieves 51% of Development Project of Darsait Road – Al-Wadi Al-Kabir
- Muscat Municipality continues the expansion of Qurum Bridge, Darsait and establishing Star Cinema and Dowwar Al-Wadi Al-Kabir Bridge

51% of the Development Project of (Darsait Road – Al-Wadi Al-Kabir) Road has been achieved of the current works within an active area in which the road will pass with and serve different sectors and activities. Muscat Municipality has prepared strategic plans for getting solutions of traffic jams in Ruwi district and its related roads due to its great importance and daily traffic movement load from and to this road.
Qurum Bridge
The Municipality is currently splitting mountainous canals for expanding the end of Qurum Heights Road in Darsait for solving traffic jams which happens within the rush hours after the Significant increase in traffic movement and separating the traffic which directs to Darsait and Al-Wadi Al-Kabir from the traffic which directs to Muttrah and Muscat through traffic lanes specified for each of them. the same is followed for the traffic movement coming from Darsait and Al-Wadi Al-Kabir directing to Qurum. The project includes a new third lane expanding for kilometer into the two directions in this existing bridge and adding two lanes in every direction to form two separated lanes which directs to Darsait . Another two lanes with free movement direct to Al-Wadi Al-Kabir and establishing a lane above the bridge directing to Dowar Sultan Qaboos port. Three lanes will direct to the bridge into the opposite direction from Al-Wadi Al-Kabir to Qurum and another lance coming from Port Way.
Star Cinema Bridge
The project includes the expansion of the existing upper bridge near the intersection of Hassan Ibn Thabit School. This bridge will be expanded to cross above the intersection which is in front of "Star Cinema" with two passages movement in both the two directions. A light intersection below this bridge would be established for serving the related ways therein.
Sheraton Tunnel
A new tunnel for vehicles will be established on the intersection locating in front of "Sheraton Oman Hotel" with two lanes on both directions and establishing quadrant intersection with light signals above the tunnel for distributing the traffic movement on the surrounding ways.
Al-Wadi Al-Kabir Bridge
This project also includes upper bridge above Al-Wadi Al-Kabir Roundabout (previously Almjmr Roundabout ) with two lanes in each direction and transferring the roundabout into quadrant intersection and providing it with light signals in addition to establishing two bridges for pedestrians along the road.
The project will be provided with all the traffic safety means, lighting and Surface water drainage means.
Depending on the Traffic Survey
At its side, Muscat Municipality has finished the preparation of the traffic survey which includes Muscat Governorate (MATS). This survey has included a Comprehensive plan for transportations that covers traffic movement requirements within Muscat Governorate on __________ up to 2030. Thus, the survey has been ended with some results and recommendations. Dar Al-Handsa Company has assigned to prepare this survey. The total numbers for the paved roads within Muscat (4320 kilometers), the lighted roads (2030 kilometers), numbers of light intersections (61) with light signals and these numbers may be increased in light of the crazy increase of vehicles and the expansions which the city witness in the urban and economic sector, and the increasing population growth, and this project was based on the data of the traffic survey.
The survey has based on a great number of statistics and field surveys which includes making interviews with cars drivers and performing the manual Census which categorize the vehicles, creating a study and a survey for car parks, counting turning movements of vehicles and traffic accidents data collection, as well as to update the road inventory data, assess the capacity of the main roads and intersections for recording them into a comprehensive database includes all the roads within Muscat. A unified model for all the various transportation means has been provided (Multi-modal Traffic model) and preparing a structural plan for accommodating the traffic requirements in Muscat Governorate. This model will allow the possibility of free traffic movement without overcrowding taking into consideration the new developmental projects, housing growth in addition to future roads charts.
The survey has provided a number of solutions for contributing in meeting the traffic requirements through securing the main infrastructure and the suitable services for transportations within Muscat.
