Muscat Municipality is conducting a workshop involving 38 butchers and staff of the slaughterhouses, educating them about the state-of-the-art methods and global experiences

For raising the efficiency and performance of butchers and staff of the slaughterhouses, educating them about the risks of animal diseases and complying to the healthy procedures of work, the Planning and Training Department in Muscat Municipality is conducting a two-day workshop for all butchers and staff of the Central Slaughterhouse in Al-Maha Leisure Club Hall of the Municipality. The workshop is targeting 38 Omanis and expatriate staff working in this area.

A number of Slaughterhouse Department specialists are delivering the content of the workshop, presenting scientific programs that are appropriate for the professional level of the butchers. They use the data show technique in order to show tutorial videos for certain experiences of global slaughterhouses. This illustrates the importance of personal hygiene and correct methods of slaughtering and skinning livestock.

Objectives

The workshop aims to identify the most important diseases that can be transmitted to humans through animals, provide education about the health requirements that must be met in work, identify ways of meat contamination, personal hygiene, recognize the significance of safety and the professional health of the staff of the slaughterhouses and address the risks resulting from the equipment used in slaughtering and skinning, as well as the importance of the use of personal protective equipment .

Basics of The Program :

Dr. Shawki bin Abdul Rahman Al-Zadjali, MD of Slaughterhouse Department, has confirmed that the program, prepared by the Department in cooperation with Planning and Training Department, is addressing a number of state-of-the-art basics in the area of training the staff of the slaughterhouses according to the global systems, ensuring to provide work in quality and speed in delivery. One of the most prominent basics of the program is discussing the description of the common diseases affecting livestock, their methods of prevention, health requirements during the processing of animals, handling techniques of machinery and equipment, the significance of hygiene and personal care during work, and the concepts of professional safety and health .

Dr. Shawki stated that conducting this program coincides with the preparations made by Muscat Municipality for welcoming the Holy Month of Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr, during which it is expected to witness the peak utilization of the services delivered by the slaughterhouse to the citizens and residents. Moreover, the program comes to life under the 2013 plan of Muscat Municipality for the training of skillful and efficient staff. There will be another workshop for butchers in the middle of next October in coordination with international companies. The content of the workshop is to be delivered by a number of global veterinarians, accompanied by simultaneous interpretation for the attendees .
