Muscat Municipality continues monitoring health violations and shuts two facilities down
Carrying on the approach taken by the regulators in Muscat Municipality, and continuing the visitations and regulatory campaigns on the various activities involved in trading food or directly relevant to the health and safety of the consumer, a number of visitations were conducted on 2nd – 5th June. These ranged from routine visitations, unannounced visits and various campaigns. The implemented visitations were up to 851 conducted by the competent teams in the Departments of the Muscat Municipality at different morning and evening intervals. These visitations have had significant output in educating the staff of such facilities about the importance of compliance with health systems and the laws governing food circulation. Moreover, food traders were instructed in terms of the required basics for food circulation, commencing from the primary stages of handling in the facility, particularly upon receipt of various nutrients, through the various stages of storage, preparation, cooking and presentation, to the ways of disposal of the remaining or unfit for circulation materials.
Conducting those visitations, 2 facilities were shut down due to failure to apply the health requirements. Furthermore, 53 health violation reports were made for different reasons related to food safety and the health and safety of consumers. Destroying 293 kg of various food items e.g. meat, fish and school pancakes was one of the results of those visitations, as well.
On the other hand, specialists in the Central Citrus Market Management intensified their visitations to sites dedicated to selling vegetables and fruits due to the growing demand to the market. Reaching 1016 visitations within the same period, distributed to all sites in the market, 5 violation reports were made in addition to the destruction of different amounts of fruit and vegetables, up to 27053 kg, due to external deterioration, making them unfit for human consumption .
Muscat Municipality is claiming the owners of commercial facilities to investigate the health conditions of their establishments and to intensify surveillance on them. It also requests all consumers to follow the health instructions when buying the different food products to ensure suitability for human consumption.
