Muscat Municipality concludes Contract Management and Global Map Reading Courses

Department of Planning and Training in Muscat Municipality concluded Project Omani Contract Management Course in collaboration with the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) with the participation of 25 engineers and technicians working in various units and departments of Muscat Municipality for 5 consecutive days. Dr. Ali Al-Naimi, from the College of Engineering, SQU, delivered the content of the course .
The course targeted giving participants the capacity required for Contract Management, educating them about the latest development mechanisms and gaining access to state-of-the-art techniques in this area .
The course basics involved an introduction to the types of projects and contracts in Oman, method of project set-off, preparation of feasibility study, tendering, contracting, and procedure analysis .
The course also included the identification of managing the design services according to the Omani Codes, base of quality in contract procedures, access to system construction and maintenance phases and a number of new basics acquired by participants .
Moreover, the Municipality concluded the Course of Map Reading and GPS, a program educating the participants about most types of maps and their contents with the technique to extract geographical and metric coordinates, conduct projections, and set directions and distances. It addresses the use of Global Positioning System (GPS), as well.
The program involved theoretical lectures and practical exercises about searching and determining the locations on maps, technique of using the Global Positioning System, calculation of the directions and distances, and coordinates. 20 building inspectors and personnel of Information Systems Department took part in the course. The two-week program was held at the headquarters of Topographic Science in the Public Authority of Survey in the Ministry of Defense (MoD). The program was presented by Eng. Abdullah bin Humaid Al-Kalbani .
