The Ghala-Al-Ansab double road project (phase two) achieved 75% of the work that is being carried out in a vital area crossed by the road. The purpose of the project is to serve different sectors and activities and is anticipated to finish by yearend . Muscat municipality has adopted strategic plans to solve traffic congestions in the area and the roads connected to it due to the importance of the area and the dense daily incoming and going traffic in the road connected to Muscat highway and Sultan Qaboos Street.
Phase two extends from the terminal of Al-Ansab traffic circle up to the end of the structure of the new Falg Al-Sham area with 2.5 km. in length. Phase one of the road was inaugurated the middle of last year with a length of 6.2 km from Muscat highway up to the Al-Ansab traffic circle within the framework of developing the roads network and raising the efficiency of traffic in the governorate of Muscat.
This phase includes the establishment of a 800 m long supporting wall with a height of 7m to 12m crossing a safe path away from the valley canal. It aims at shifting incoming traffic from the middle of the valley to the sides reclining to the mountain hills as a precautionary measure to avoid the dangers of the valleys.

The double road consist of two lanes of 7.3m width on each side, and in the middle an isle 4m wide, with inner shoulders 60cm wide and outer shoulders 2.5m wide. The road was designed and equipped with all the necessary means of safety at the vital entrances and exits that serve the residential structures. In addition to lighting and building tanks to drain the valley water and surface water along the path.
The project includes also the establishment of a service road 900m long extending from the new traffic circle in Al-Ansab to serve the villages of Falg Al-Sham, Al-Hammam and Sanab, and extends up to the entrance of the structures in Falg Al-Sham area to be later connected to the existing service road.

A summary of phase one of the project
Phase one of the project which starts from the Al-Athiba intersection at Muscat highway towards the Ghala area up to Al-Ansab traffic circle is witnessing fluidity in traffic. It includes a bridge 100m long along the Al-Ansab valley. The bridge was built based on hydrological studies of water level in the area with a frequency of 100 years. In addition, a free intersection was built to serve the Al-Ansab and Ghala al-Belad area. The project also includes the connection of Al-Ansab area to the entrances and traffic circles of Al-Ghala road. Two traffic circles were built to distribute traffic on residential and commercial areas. Draining tanks and channels were built to drain rainwater so that the road remains unblocked at all times.
