Muscat Municipality holds "GIS For Pest Control" Training Course

The Department of Planning and Training in Muscat Municipality continues holding and delivering the "GIS For Pest Control" Training Course to Muscat Municipality staff, working in the field of pest control and sanitation, and decision makers from various directorate units and departments of the Municipality in the Municipality Building. Lectured by Dr. Ahmed Abdul Salam Khamees, a Pest Control Specialist, Department of Health, and Mr. Sami Zaki Mohammed, expert in the science of lands and water, the course continues for ten days of theoretical explanations and practical applications using state-of-the-art methods.
The course aims at raising the efficiency of the participants to gain technical information and practical experience in planning and managing pest problems in a professional and technological method in order to avoid, minimize or prevent application risks or errors, which may arise during pest control operations. It also enables participants of control operations based on sound and safe decisions to humans and the environment, as well as identifying the features and geographic information of various pest affected cases and concentrating on the importance of adopting international legislation and recommendations to develop strategic solutions for their resolution.
The course includes the evolution and development of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) science, its relationship with other applied sciences, a workshop on map reading, the significance of locating pests, geographic databases (data accuracy, treatment mechanisms and methods of recording), the types of software used in GIS applications and explanation of Arc GIS software (Base, data reading, map adding, case recording). Furthermore, the course involves displaying videos about space and GPS applications.
