The Muscat Municipality is now undertaking the implementation of construction works and establishment of concrete pillars for the Intersection of Al-Mahaj Bridges Project in Al-Amerat through one of the specialized companies in contracting and construction. The municipality has already finalized the preparation of engineering designs and detailed drawings with the assistance of one of the companies of global experience according to a vision that takes into account the dimensions of the project and its impact on facilitating the smooth flow of movement and resolving the congestion in addition to its anticipated active commercial and tourist development prospects on the area.
The project involves the removal of existing roundabout of Al-Mahaj and establishment of a free flyovers with three lane in both directions for traffic separation in different directions and facilitation of the free movement.
Adding the third lane in both directions, the road from the roundabout of Al-Amerat to the roundabout of Al-Mahaj will be rehabilitated. The project includes establishing bridges and ferries to drain rain water to the main valleys of Al-Amerat Street, which, upon their flow, result currently in stopping traffic. This, in turn, will make this part of the road passable for all climatic conditions. Moreover, Boucher-Al-Amerat Road will be linked to Al-Jood Street to facilitate the movement of traffic to and from the areas of Al-Amerat.

The project also includes the development of drainage systems and sewage network of the valleys in the region, as well as the diversion of all lines of electrical and water services affected by the project, with providing it with the necessary lighting posts to fit the new expansions.
The roundabout of Al-Mahaj is currently witnessing traffic congestion, due to the intersection of two main Streets there: Wadi Uday-Al-Amerat Road and Bucher-Al-Amerat Road. The peak congestion hour occurs in the morning when employees go to their work and on their return at the evening time. Sometimes, traffic congestion extends up to 2 kilometers or more.

This vital project comes as an important step to relieve traffic congestion, resolve bottlenecks and help streamline the road under all circumstances and conditions, helping to revitalize the business traffic and the increasing urban growth in the region. This region is experiencing traffic linking between a number of states of Muscat Governorate to Al-Sharqyyiah Governorate, resulting in shortening distances. The roundabout represents a meeting point of main roads linked to the states of Bushar, Mutouh and Qurayyat and up to the Al-Sharqiyyah Governorate. Muscat Municipality spares no effort to complete the road network in Muscat according to systematically studied methodology regarding the importance of the vital projects that serve the urban populated communities, activate the economic and commercial movement and open new horizons to recognize the city corners and its features scenic profiles.
