Municipal Council Discuss Usage of Residential Buildings for Commercial Purposes and Congestion of Darsait

Yesterday morning at headquarters of Council at Darsait, Eng. Mohsen Bin Mohammed Bin Ali Al-Sheikh, the Chairman of Muscat Municipally and Municipal Council confirmed on importance of the Municipal Council, its role in the development process witnessed by the State, efforts and legislations presented by it which serve the city and pursuing of scientific approach in planning, execution, following up and estimation operations in order to achieve high standards to make the works successful and complete the accomplishments witnessed by our beloved state under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, God protects him. This was during the opening statement of His Majesty during his presidency of the eighth meeting of Municipal Council of the first year.
His Excellency expressed his pleasure with the trust and assignment of His Majesty, the leader of our State, God keeps him, to take over the responsibility of Muscat Municipality, achieving its message and serving its national goals to make Muscat a cultural capital of the Sultanate as its counterparts in the advanced global capitals through its development projects, vital services and distinguished aesthetics. He also mentioned to the vital role played by the Municipality in the strategic and development projects plans and development of facilities and public services according to the system of the planned and continuous programs to cover all parts of the city in line with urban growth and commercial and tourism activities. The matter that has a positive effect on discovering new wide prospects of future vision for the modern country with its genuine character and promotion of its services to cope with global lifestyle of the city.
His Excellency clarified that Muscat Municipality supervises service frame for geographic scope amounting to more than 3900 kilo meters and number of population is one million and two hundred thousand of citizens and expatriates and that the growth is moving rapidly horizontally rather than vertically so it requires provision of more services and puts the Municipality before challenges. The development needs plans to execute it, human and financial resources and sufficient time to deal with it. Also, the citizens have many aspirations and the representatives of the Municipal Council undertakes these aspirations.
The Council has to adopt, coordinate and make studies to achieve them as possible. The Municipal Council of all its members and its human resources seeks in favor of the public interest. His Excellency confirmed at the conclusion of his statement before members of the Council on moving forward to serve the nation and the citizens and the honesty is always in our consideration.
The Council discussed several subjects scheduled in agenda such as ratification of its previous minutes and presenting procedures taken to execute it.
The Council referred subject of usage of residential buildings for commercial purposes to Committee of Public Affairs for the study and setting proposals and recommendations in this regard.
The Council decided primarily to form a work team among members of Municipal Council to study idea of construction of (Municipal Council for Child) as a first Council of its kind in the Sultanate and determining its visions and Perceptions and taking advantage from other experiments in this field.
Moreover, the Council discussed traffic congestion at Darsait area, its reasons and impacts. The members gave many proposals and ideas concerning this phenomenon confirming the necessity of cooperation and coordination with other relevant entities to find out appropriate alternatives and solutions.
