Muscat Municipality Shuts Down 33 Stores and 269 Hygiene Cases of Violation
• 164,000 kgs of vegetables and fruits were dumped in the citrus market .

The Departments of Food Inspection and Control in the General Directorates of Muscat Municipality and border crossings have made 9763 intensive inspection campaigns on food establishments and shops related to public health during last January and the first quarter of February. These campaigns resulted in the closure of 33 shops and issuing 269 violation cases due to lack of commitment to implement the requirements of hygiene and health remarks that adversely affect public health. .
An amount of 3.377 kg of foodstuffs, unfit for human usage, were also dumped. In the Central Market of citrus more than 164,000 kilograms of various kinds of unfit vegetables and fruits, which were infected wit apparent rot were dumped At border crossing points 21048 kg of quince, infected with the injury scourge of insecticides, have been destroyed in cooperation with the competent authorities Also, 900 kg of fruits and vegetables with street vendors were dumped.


Campaign Against Rodents in Muttrah
The Department of Pest Control, at the General Directorate of Muscat Municipality in Muttrah has implemented an intensive campaign to combat pests in the Ruwi Heights from November 8, 2013 to January 19, 2014 where the area was thoroughly and intensively surveyed. During this campaign, several spots for breeding rodents were discovered whereby the Department has adopted practical actions which included the development of fixed traps grafts and arranging periodic visits to follow up and determine the necessary urgent actions, by which required necessary measures were taken. The number of sites that have been covered was 268 houses, by using rodent traps and poisonous baits. It has been noted that the number of complaints has been reduced significantly in recent days. .
It has become clear to the Department that the most important reasons that led to the spread of rodents in the region were the failure to maintain the hygiene and the presence of residues in and around the buildings. .
