Muscat Municipality Destroys (83184.5) KG of Vegetables and Fruits and Closes 3 Stores

Lately, Muscat Municipality has destroyed (83184.5) Kilograms of different fruits and vegetables in Central Citrus Market due to presence of mold and fungi on it within (1035) inspections during the last two weeks, in the context of intensive service efforts by specialists in the market, and efforts undertaken by the departments of foods control and inspection directorates of the Muscat Municipality, according to inspection program on foods establishments to ensure the health and safety of the food provided to the consumer.
The visits targeted food stores, stores of meat, poultry, desserts, and nuts with number (907) inspection visit to various areas of the governorate of Muscat, resulted in (45) health Violation, closures of (3) stores, and the destruction of 11 substance used in the preparation of foods and 18 pieces of expired cosmetic material, and 383 kg of food.
The inspection teams made unpredicted inspection campaigns to raise the level of health of the commercial stores and their employees and provide good quality in the services provided to consumers.

Where the Local Order No. (1/2006 ) for the protection and safety of public health identified the legislations and laws regulating the control work on food establishments and regulations of the health requirements of practicing activities related to public health and explained specific frameworks for the conduct of these activities. it also specified the duties incumbent on the inspection teams of food and methods of performing work , in addition to identifying the foundations to be followed in handling food in food establishments. it defined in Article No. (2) the right of the Municipality to close food establishments and stores related to public health directly in the case of practicing the activity without getting municipal license, performing commercial deception in foods, presence of insects or rodents or its remains in the shop or food, spills of sewage, selling or disposing of the food or beverage seized by the Municipality , occurring of mass poisoning or epidemic diseases resulting from food and beverage traded in the store, repeating non-compliance with the requirements of health, failure to remove Health violations, recruiting workers have contagious diseases, or in emergency cases decided by the competent authorities.
The administrative decision No. (168/2011) on the issuance of regulations and health requirements related to public health Also identified health requirements for the exercise of each activity separately, including activities of food and other activities related to public health in addition to the requirements for buildings, electrical and water connections, sewage, General cleanliness, pest control, security and safety requirements, and requirements for manpower. The Municipality is also working constantly on developing and updating the health requirements as required by the latest developments in this aspect.
