Muscat municipality implements 60% of Bait AL AFLAJ road development project (Darsait - Wadi Kabir)

- The last phases of Al-Qurm - Darsait bridge development
- Establishment of a bridge in front of Al-nojoom cinema and Dawar Alwady Al-Kabeer bridge soon and starting establishment of a bridge near Sheraton building .

60 Percent of Bait AL AFLAJ road development project (Darsait - Wadi Kabir) has been implemented amid a heartland that the road penetrates. This project services various segments and activities. Muscat municipality has put strategic plans to solve the heavy traffic in Roy and the surrounding roads because of its vitality and the heavy traffic of that road, this project includes establishment of an overpasses and development of all intersections related to the road starting from the end of Al-Qurm - Darsait till Dawar Al-wadi Alkabeer.
Darsair bridge
The new development of Darsait bridge to the new paths heading to Roy, Alwady Al-Kabeer and Alminaa road and the associated traffic has been inaugurated, the new developments executed in this area witness a streamlined traffic in the five paths, of which two heading to the new overpass to Alminaa road and three that spread after bending to be split into two paths heading to Matrah, Alwady Al-kabeer, and two paths to Darsait and Roy. Hopeful, the other reverse paths from Roy,Alminaa Road, and heading to Al Qurm opened to traffic soon. The project includes adding a third lane for a kilometre in both directions of this bridge .
Bridge in front of Alnojoom Cinema
The project works include executing an overpass attaches the existing bridge in front of Hassan Bin Thabit school to another new bridge in front of Alnojoom Cinema building, and it will causes traffic flow without need stopping at the signalized intersections .

Sheraton bridge
Another bridge will also be established, for vehicles, on the intersection in front of "Sheraton Oman" with two paths in both directions. In addition to a signalized quad intersection to divide the traffic to the surrounding paths .
AlWady Al-kabeer bridge
The project also includes establishment of an overpass over Dawar Al Wady Al-kabeer (exnamed Dawar Al-Mujmar) with two paths in each direction with transforming the Dawar to a signalized Quad intersection and it will raise the flow of traffic in this area .
The project will be supplied with all safety means, lighting and surface water drains .
Dependence on the traffic study
on its part, Muscat Municipality completed preparing the overall traffic study of Muscat (MATS) Through a specialized consultancy firm included preparing an overall transportation plan addressing the requirements of traffic around Muscat on the long and short term till 2030. The study suggests a set of results and recommendations .
The study relied on a great number of statistics and field surveys included interviews with drivers, executing manual counting of vehicles, making a study, carting out parking lots survey, counting vehicles turning, gathering data of traffic accidents, as well as updating the roads inventory list, and evaluating the capacity of main roads and intersections with the aim of including them in the overall database. Based on this study, a traffic overview has been placed for Muscat, also a structural plan has been placed to accommodate the traffic needs of Muscat. Also a model has been developed for the various means of transport. (Multi-modal Traffic model), This allows prediction of traffic taking into consideration the new developmental projects, population growth and the future road plans.
The study came up with a number of solutions to participate in addressing the future traffic needs through securing the infra-structure and the suitable services in Muscat. This includes developing existing roads and intersections and suggesting new ones. Also taking new steps regulating and developing traffic and generating solutions to the situations also putting preliminary overviews to the various public transportation that the governorate needs on the long and short term .
