Muscat Municipality seizes expired foodstuffs of a restaurant stored in home in Al-Seeb
In context of the regulatory efforts that the general directorate of Muscat Municipality exerts in Al-Seeb, the directorate represented in Inspection Department and the Food Control of Health Affairs Department seized large a mounts of expired foodstuffs in a home in Southern Al Mabelah area in Al-seeb.
Some foreign workers were observed storing expired food than it is seized and destroyed by a group of Omani policemen.
The specialists in Department of Inspection and Food Control said that they found some foreign workers storing foodstuffs in a house in Southern Al Mabelah area in Al-seeb. The site was visited in collaboration with Oman Police Station in al Khawd and the Department of Public Prosecution specialized in Muscat Municipality issues. During the Visit, it was discovered that the home is owned to one of the vicinity restaurants. According to that, the expired foodstuffs were confiscated and destroyed and a health breach was written against the transgressor and they were stopped from any practice of storing the foodstuffs. This campaign found 91 packages f frozen chicken, 48 packages of milk, 27 Mushroom packages, 9 honey packages and 5 kilos of various spices. It is worth noting that the inspection teams of the directorate undertake continuously inspection campaigns to raise the health level of the commercial shops and it workers and delivering quality services to consumers. The Local decree No (2006/1) of protecting the public health the legislations and codes of the Controlling works on food facilities and health stipulations of carrying out practices in connection with public health and frames of carrying out the activities and specifies the responsibilities on the team and the way of undertaking his work. It also defined the principles that should be followed in circulating food in relation with food facility. It s defined in the article (2) that it is Municipality has the right to close food institutions and shops that has relation with public health in case of carrying out any activity without having a national license, committing a commercial cheat, existence of insects, drainage leak, selling the food or drinks prevented by the Municipality or existence of collective poison state, epidemic illness comes from food and drinks in the shop, the repeat of non complying with health stipulations, non removal of health wastes, hiring infected workers or in emergent cases defined by the specialized authority.
The Muscat Municipality implores all owners of commercial facilities to restrict to all stipulations, controlling all situations and checking with the specialized directorate in case of any question.
