Municipality in Muscat goes back to the twenties of the past century.
Recently, the municipality of Muscat published the book "Municipality council in the governrate of Muscat 1972 - 2013" which was edited by Abdallah Ben Khalfan AlMegeezy the Director of municipality council affairs responsible for assisting the tasks of the secretary of Muscat municipality council. The book addresses the levels of development of the municipality council, document the historical expansions of the council and has a display of the people who took charge of its administration in a sequencing loop. The book includes chapters of the orders, decisions and recommendations issued by the council in order to coordinate the municipal work in the governrate. This book took 2 years to collect its data, rewrite and edit it.
The material in the book is organized in a quick summery of the history of municipal system in Muscat which goes back to the beginning of the twenties of the previous century when it administrative municipal systems came to live. Legislations where issued since 1949. the municipal law to Muscat and Oman was a alteration in the history of municipal system. After the dawn of the ***, the municipal system witnessed a noteworthy development. When the Sultan issued the issued a royal decree number (1/74) concerned with the establishment of the capital`s municipality, which was the fruit of the wisdom of his highness The Great Sultan Qabous Ben Saieed Long Live his highness. which was the beginning of issuing many rules and regulations that targeted coordinated municipal work in Muscat.
The documentation of the Municipal history in Muscat , which extends from 1972 to 2013, its importance from documenting the history of the council whose members where being selected to the idea of electing the members, in which the entire council is selected by the direct election of it`s state representative members, which was a positive step in the practice of democracy and the expansions of the participation of citizens in the municipal decision making.
The book is considered a reference for researchers and people who are interested in the subject because it includes all the royal decrees issued concerning municipality council, either related to the legislative development of issuing municipal rules or to selecting the members.
