The confiscation of 290 Kg of foodstuff has been seized at expatriate workers homes in Al-Ansab
The Judicial Arrest Officer of the inspection and food control department at the General Directorate of Muscat Municipality in Bawsher enables to arrest some of expatriate workers storing foodstuff, cooking and preparing large amount of cooked food in one of the houses in Bawshar state. The expatriate workers plan market these foods for restaurant without national license to practice in unsanitary environmental conditions without considering to food safety requirements and the regulations of the Municipality. This act is considered a violation of the law for the public health protection and the customer safety, where the inspection team confiscated 327 invalid tools for using in cooking, 290 Kg of various foodstuff, cooked meals, frozen foods, vegetables and fruits.
The inspection team during its field visits explained that there is a commercial business in one of the houses of the expatriate workers in Al-Ansab of Bawshar state, after investigation and follow expats confirmed that this labor migration is storing, cooking, preparation and marketing foods to the restaurant of the region. The public prosecution, Royal Omani Police and the workforce are coordinated to raid the home.
Yesterday morning, the expatriate workers are arrested because of preparing and cooking foods in unsanitary environmental conditions, lack of food safety requirements, storage by random ways that make it susceptible for damage and corruption and lack of Personal Hygiene Standard for workers. Home inspection revealed the existence of large amount of meals including 77 Kg and 495 bags of diverse foodstuffs, 143 Kg frozen foods, 43 Kg of vegetables and fruits have been confiscated and destroyed and then the house is closed.
The offense workers have been referred to the Public Prosecution to investigate the workers conditions and its compliance with labor law, if the offense is proved, so all workers will be adapted from the Sultanate according to the followed procedures.
The Municipal warns the danger of these unhealthy practices to health and customers safety, it invites all customers to be partners in regulating these unhealthy practices which affect in their health and the safety of their families in order to limit the spread of this phenomenon by reporting any similar views to this cases.
