Muscat Health Authority reviews the efforts of Oman Hereditary
Blood disorder Association and discusses with it the suitable mechanism to overcome the challenges.
Yesterday, the health , social and environmental committees of Muscat Municipality Council held its fifth meting under the chairman ship of Ali bin Salim Almashary, it hosted Oman hereditary Blood Disorder Association , where its representatives presented a visual presentation including a brief introduction of the association, its domains, the adopted message and objectives to create awareness channels of communication between the patient , his family and the specialists in the medical and therapeutic fields and the community awareness. In addition to the establishment of an educational and awareness centers in coordination with the concerned institution which provide care healthy services and the governors offices.
Also, it provides seminars to the school`s students in coordination with the concerned institutions which provide the educational and health services within "peer Education", school health programs, psychological counseling to the patient and his family, follow up the scientific researches results and the regulations that support the necessity of pre genetic screening before marriage, preparing database of the patients in the Sultanate and the latest scientific developments in the treatment of hereditary blood disease, encourage and support the related scientific researches which participate in the regional , national and international activities that address the hereditary blood diseases and its issues.
The association reviews the lack of community awareness challenges for the importance of voluntary work in this field, besides the absence of volunteers net by the relevant authorities, also the lack of financial support of the public and private institutions, the absence of a regulation that regulates the association. It provides a number of proposals to the Municipal council for improving its mechanisms and supporting its orientations and efforts.
These proposals are represented in the premarital counseling to the Omani society, improving the provided services level to the patients of the hereditary blood diseases, providing programs that help the patients of hereditary blood diseases to get financial support in the case of establishment small enterprises or enabling jobs to this category in the private and public sectors or providing scholarships and training opportunities.
It should be noted that the inbreeding is one of the most important main reasons of the hereditary blood disease which are cost millions to be treated. For that the council wants to cooperate with Oman Hereditary Blood Disorder association to achieve the required awareness among all society segments to ensure healthy generation.
