Muscat Municipality briefs the efforts of Public Telecommunication Regulatory Authority

The municipal council of Muscat Governorate hosted the Public Telecommunications Regulatory Authority through the fourth Council`s meeting this year, chaired by HE Eng. Mohsen bin Mohammed bin Ali Al-Sheikh President of the Council, in presence of Dr. Hamad bin Salim Al-Rawahi, Chairman of the Authority, and a number of specialists, as well as representatives from the telecommunication operation sector in the Sultanate.
The statement is submitted by Eng. Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Balushi, Deputy head of the Authority, included a range of topics which aimed to clarify the tasks of authority, its responsibilities embodied in the high quality delivery of price and coverage, in addition to afford more choices as stated in the statement. Eng. Al-Balushi pointed to the exited mechanisms in monitoring the service quality periodically, represented in the field tests surveys, checking and following the performance indicators, the beneficiaries complaints, and monitoring the quality of service by the authority.
After listening to the statement and presentations, the members expressed their observations and interventions, which focused mostly on the importance of developing the services by the Authority in cooperation with the competent governmental authorities.
The council completed its meeting by reviewing the actions taken to implement the recommendations of the first council meeting. Also it approved the report of its previous meeting which included a number of recommendations, most notably the statement of Information Technology Authority. As well as, it approved the need for coordinating the authority with governmental entities on the study of challenges and obstacles that object the appliance of e-government for some institutions. The other approved topics are the recommendations for implementing a campaign related to inappropriate behaviors in using the drainage systems by directing awareness messages in various languages in these places, the use of loudspeakers at events until late hours of night in the residential neighborhoods, the organization of habitation for public and private colleges students in Muscat, assigning the public Affairs Committee to study the proposal of appointing guards for buildings in the governorate of Muscat, beside approving the recommendations of detecting family sessions on beaches, and studying the phenomenon of leaving discarded cars in the streets, neighborhoods and public squares.
The meeting also briefed the recommendations of the Public Affairs Committee at its third meeting, which relates to provide all security and safety requirements in the residential and commercial buildings consisting four or more floors, and set controls for fencing the agricultural lands in all states of Muscat Governorate.
On the other hand, a number of issues included in the agenda are reviewed in the meeting, the most prominent were discussing the controls of establishing umbrellas in front of commercial buildings, the responses of a number of government ministries on some of the recommendations issued by the Council, as well as many proposals submitted by the members on developing municipal services and systems.
