Muscat Municipality arrests migrant laborers practiced commercial
activity without a license
The inspection and food control Department at the Directorate General of Muscat Municipality in Bowshar arrests migrant laborers cooking and preparing large amounts of cooked food at a house in Al-Qurm region, and storing other foodstuffs in unhealthy environment lacking the requirements of food safety; for the purpose of marketing to one shopping malls in the state without getting a governmental license for doing business. This act is a violation to the law of public health protection, a threat to consumer`s health and his safety. The inspection team confiscated 539 utensils and equipments used in cooking, in addition to ready-made foods, and about 5 tons of expired rice.
The inspection team noted that it had received a report from citizens about the existence of commercial activity in one of the houses, inhabited by migrant laborers in Al-Qurm region. After following, the team confirmed that these labor stored, cooked, prepared and marketed foodstuffs to one of shopping malls in the state. There was a coordinating between the Department of Public Prosecution to Muscat Municipality issues, Royal Oman police and labor force for raiding the house, confiscating and destroying all the foodstuffs and closing the home.
In Seeb state, the inspection and food control department at the Directorate General of Muscat Municipality raided a house in Al-Shirejah region after receiving a report from citizens about an activity by the migrant laborers such as preparing meat (Al-mashakeek) and distributed it to Al-mashakeek itinerant sellers with their private vehicles. The raid executed after taking a search warrant from the public prosecution Management to Muscat Municipality issues in coordination with Royal Oman Police and labor force. The inspection team arrested the migrant laborers for not having licensed documents and confiscated 70 kg of meat and squid.
The Municipal warns from the dangers of these unhealthy practices on consumer health and safety, and commends the role of consumers and their participation in catching the nutritional unhealthy practices that affect on their families health and safety. As well as the Municipal requires from citizens not to hesitate for reporting any similar by calling Muscat Contact Center (1111) or the municipal pages on social networking sites.
