Muscat Municipality arrests migrant labor preparing rotten meat in purpose of selling

The Directorate General of Muscat Municipality in Muttrah al-kubra represented in Inspection and Food Control Department collaboration with the public prosecutor and the Royal Oman Police managed to arrest migrant labor setting up and preparing large quantities of meat and food that do not meet the health requirements at one of the old houses in Muttrah market area away from health control; these meat and food are prepared and cooked to customers in restaurants.

Mr. Mohsen bin Ali Al-Harthi, Chief Legal Researcher at the Directorate General of Muscat Municipality in Muttrah al-Kubra noted that the food inspectors during their periodical inspection tours observe the presence of migrant labor and their activity at old house at the central of residential neighborhoods in Muttrah market away from the eyes of the health control. Therefore it has been coordination for raiding the house according to the proceedings and addressing the public prosecution administration for the issues of Muscat Municipality in order to get a search warrant to the site.
Yesterday morning, the house has raided in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police and Public Prosecution; the migrant labor have arrested during the preparation of food in unsanitary environmental conditions lacking to the minimum health and safety standards, in addition to not having health certificates or my municipal license to practice the work. Therefore the labor has been violated, the confiscation and damage of meat and referral migrant labor to public prosecution in preparation for applying established penalties and sanctions because of their violations to health requirements, not compliance with regulations and instructions, and preparation of food in unhealthy and unprepared environment.

Muscat Municipality stressed the illegality of such unhealthy practices that threaten the health and safety of citizens and residents, confirming the continuity of their periodical inspection campaigns to check restaurants and food facilities on an ongoing basis in order to prevent health violations, and provide adequate health environment for citizens and residents. Muscat Municipality calls upon all consumers to report any observations affecting the public health by contacting Muscat Municipality Contact Center (1111), which receives all communications and reports on a 24 hours, via the Municipal Website, or the application "Baladiyeti" via smart phones, or the accounts of Municipal on Social Media, or the communication with Muscat Municipality directorates in all States.
