The delegation of the Philippine Trade Mission visits Muscat Municipality to identify inspection and food control

With a view of strengthening cooperation and exchange of experiences, Muscat Municipality represented by the General Directorate of Health Affairs has received some Representative from the Trade Mission of the Philippine delegation ( OBMM ) which aim to identify the administrative organization of municipal work in the field of inspection and food control.
During the visit, a visual presentation was given on the functions of the Municipal work in Oman, including the role of Muscat Municipality in monitoring and regulating markets, maintaining preventive health and issuing licenses in cooperation with the competent authorities as well as controlling the ports, foodstuff and food inspection to ensure its quality and suitability. Mr. Issa Bin Khalfan Al Riyami, Assistant Director of Food Inspection at the Directorate General for Health, talked about the overall legal legislations in the field of food, including the Food Safety Law and Regulations, in addition to local laws and regulations. In addition, it reviewed the list of health requirements for commercial activities and awareness programs aimed at introducing these legislations and regulations. The presentation also dealt with the procedures and types of inspection campaigns on food establishments and warehouses, including the analysis and testing of samples in the central laboratory of Muscat Municipality.
The second presentation was presented by Dr. Shawqi bin Abdulrahman Al-Zadjali, Director of Slaughterhouse Department in Muscat Municipality. He spoke about the health role of the Municipality of Muscat through the work of the slaughterhouse management to achieve the highest level of hygiene, in terms of the precautionary measures and preventive measures, referring to the management of meat inspections and supervision of slaughterhouses, which ensure the provision of food services according to health standards taking into account these aspects.
In addition, Suhrab bin Ali Al Farsi, Assistant Director of the Central Laboratory in Muscat Municipality, gave a presentation on the roles of the municipal laboratory. He pointed out that Muscat Municipality Laboratory is working to provide high quality services to ensure the protection of public health and consumer safety. During the analysis and diagnosis of various food samples. He also talked about the types of laboratory tests carried out by the laboratory, including chemical and microbiological tests according to local and international standards, which in turn reduce the risk of food contamination. The examination of the latest technologies and analytical tools related to the accuracy of the results of the tests and the conduct of surveys in keeping with the developments. The Municipal Laboratory has accordingly contributed to the results of a number of health studies in cooperation with bodies that support the field of food research.
The visit of the delegation of the Philippine trade mission included a number of businessmen representing the public and private sector from food processing companies, local industries and health care. The visit included a number of governmental and private institutions in the Sultanate.
