During the month of October, the technical Inspection department of the General Directorate of Muscat Municipality carried out 165 inspection visits to the buildings under construction. The inspection has resulted in detecting 6 technical irregularities and has issued some fines eventually. The municipality intends by these visits to organize and follow up the construction process of buildings and real estate works in Muscat Governorates as well as to make sure that all requirements are met.
The common types of irregularities registered in the General Directorate of Great Mutrah were technical relating to the possession of a government land plot, making of unauthorized fencing, cutting the street, illegal installation of outdoor shades and the construction of rooms with unstable materials. Such kind of fines contravenes with the local Ordinance No. (23/92) on the architectural and artistic conditions and permissible construction ratios along with the establishment of building heights and construction materials used in construction works.
On the other hand, the municipality of Muscat calls upon all members of the society to identify the provisions of the municipal laws and ensure that they are matched during the construction process; as some offences committed do indeed distort the public view and they could cause some harm to citizens or may endanger the occupants of the building. The municipality also imposes specific penalties in accordance with the applicable legal regulations, as well as the legal consequences for the perpetrator of the offence in terms of charging the costs of removing the offence.
It should be noted that the Directorate Technical Affairs Department is responsible for the clearance of citizens ` requests for minor licenses such as requests for documentation of contracts and additions interior, umbrellas, cosmetics, demolition, follow-up of buildings under construction.
