Muscat Municipality in As`Seeb implements a training program on insect and pest control

Muscat municipality represented by the Directorate-General for Health Affairs and in cooperation with the pest control department of As`Seeb municipality has implemented a training program for all inspectors, monitors and technicians (workers) in the department.
The program lasts for four days and it intends to introduce best health practices in pest and rodent control methods.
And to raise the level of knowledge in the use of environmentally friendly insecticides.
The program has included awareness-raising lectures on ways to deal properly with insect and rodent infestation in residential neighbourhoods, agricultural and industrial areas, by confining ponds and swamps that are breeding points for insects, how to operate conduits and using silicon oil to prevent larvae from breathing.
Participants were also identified about the latest techniques for spraying insecticides in the breeding sites of flies, which would contribute to the elimination of flies and flying insects and create an environment for their non-reproduction, and how tp focus on the need to select the pesticides conforming to WHO specifications through the quality of the target pest.
The pesticide has a high lethal dose of the lesion (LD50) and has a slight impact on the environment and humans.
The panellists also stressed the need to collect waste to reduce the spread of insects and rodents in residential neighborhoods and compounds, In addition, occupational safety tools should be used and all necessary precautions should be taken in pest control in public locations.
This program is also to exchange the tacit knowledge among staff working in the same sector to raise awareness and culture in ways of addressing insect and pest, to preserve the health and safety of the members of the community.
