 Muscat Municipality destroys about (8000) kg of non-edible foodstuff and closes (245) food establishments

The Directorate General of Health Affairs in Muscat Municipality carried out (20,691) inspection visits to restaurants and cafes during 2017, resulting in the closure of (245) non-food establishments for some issues regarding health regulations and requirements, and more than (1,500) health fines were issued because they did not comply with required health procedures.


In addition to the destruction of about (8,000) kilograms of meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, fruits and foodstuffs cooked because of their unfit for human consumption, and the destruction of (2,142) expired  packs.
The Food Inspection and Inspection Office at the Muscat International Airport of Muscat Municipality damaged more than 19,000 kilograms of meat, fish, eggs, dairy products and various foodstuffs. In the last three months of last year, 410 food release certificates were issued.

The Central Laboratory of the Municipality recorded (671) food samples that were subjected to microbiological examination of food, 652 samples conforming to specifications, 19 samples were not in accordance with microbiological specifications, and 54 chemical samples, Chemicals during the third quarter of last year.
The total number of cattle slaughtered in As’Seeb and Al-Amirat slaughterhouses was about 173,000 sheep, camels and cows. During the veterinary examination, 158 cattle that were unfit for human consumption were executed during the past year.
Muscat Municipality calls on restaurants and cafés to comply with health regulations and calls on consumers not to hesitate to report unhealthy practices by food establishments.
