Muscat Municipality participates in the Food Safety and Municipal Work Conference 2018

Muscat municipality, represented by the Directorate-General for Health Affairs, participated in the Conference "Food Safety and Municipal Work 2018", which was held at the Sheraton Hotel from April 8 to 12, with the participation of a number of experts and specialists in the field of food safety from and outside the Sultanate.
The conference was intended to raise public`s awareness on the importance of Food safety and quality, benefiting from regional and global experiences, and reviewing the latest developments and experiences made in this field. The General Directorate of Health Affairs of Muscat municipality has presented a range of awareness-raising and educational activities and programmes on food preservation methods and how to deal with food poisoning.
Dr. Mohammed bin Said Al Amir, a food Inspector at the directorate noted: "That health control is one of the most important components of municipal role to maintain the safety and quality of food and protect consumers against harmful and adulterated or unfit food for human consumption.
He also added that because of the significant change in new food-processing methods, it has become easier to transfer diseases through food, so the safety and security services must be developed to maintain the health and safety of food, which is the first line of defense as a preventive action against potential risks.
