Muscat Municipality signs an agreement with OIFC to collect lease fees, conduct a field survey and create a database of landlords and tenants.



- Registering electricity and water bills on behalf of the lessee under the lease contract registered with the Municipality in accordance with Royal Decree No. (6/89).

- Attempt to regulate the relationship between leasers and lessees of houses and commercial and industrial shops.

Muscat Municipality signed today Monday an agreement with Oman Investment and Finance Company SAOG on a project of collecting unlicensed lease fees in the Municipality. The agreement was signed by H.E Eng. Mohsin bin Mohammad Al Sheikh and Mr Nasser Bin Mohammed Al Harthy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company, at the headquarter of Muscat Municipality building in Daresit.

The agreement, which extends to (6 months), allows the Municipality and the company to work together in the project of collecting the losses resulting from unregistered lease contract fees by employing the company`s capabilities and expertise to work with the Municipality in collecting the fees.

The joint work of collecting lease fees will be divided into two stages. The first is to collect data on owners and tenants. The company provides field survey services and collects information on owners and tenants in the agreed areas by comparing the data provided by the Municipality with the data provided by the company. This will help the Municipality determines the unregistered lease contracts.

The company will follow up the lessor and the tenant after examining the data and analyzing it and finding the leased units without the rental contracts registered with the Municipality, after which work is done with the competent authorities to demand the registration of leases and payment of the prescribed fees.

The second phase of the project includes the collection of fees due to the Municipality, whereby OIF will assist in registering all electricity and water bills on behalf of the lessee under the lease contract registered with the Municipality; as per Royal Decree No. 6/89, regulating the relationship between landlords and tenants of houses and commercial and industrial establishments and to register their leases by providing suitable lists according to the information available to them.
