Muscat Municipality takes counter operations against "Aedes aegypti" in as`Seeb

Muscat Municipality in as`Seeb has intensified its inspection campaign against the "Aedes aegypti mosquito" in coordination with specialists from the Ministry of Health. The campaigns aimed to combat the foci of these mosquitoes and their presence in the wilyaha.
Ismail al Rashdi, Head of the pest control department at the Directorate General of Muscat Municipality in as`Seeb, explained that with increasing cases of diseases resulted from the Aedes aegypti mosquito, specialists from both the Ministry of Health and Muscat Municipality in as`Seeb carried out precaution programmes to scan all the sites in the Wilayat of Seeb for Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Both sides have taken preventive measures to ensure no stagnant water in the wilayah, even in small quantities for 5 to 7 days, especially in some hidden sites (potted trees, fountains and old tires as such places constitute a good environment for breading.
The pest control department of Muscat Municipality has also performed spray campaigns as soon as the department gets a communication on the availability of Aedes aegypti mosquito, taking into account the time of maximum activity of mosquito at sunset. ..... Spraying process uses hot fogging machines (smoke) and cold ultra-low volume spraying machines with pyrethroid insecticides as safe concentrations certified by the World Health Organization. The pest control uses also Silicone oil to stagnant water as a natural Eco-friendly insecticide.
The combat campaign has also included some awareness programmes to citizens and residents at as`Seeb to familiarize them with the Aedes aegypti mosquito and what to do in such cases.
