The health sector in Muscat Municipality is concerned with the development of Public Health Services, the health of the environment, and to increase the effectiveness and adequacy of the Municipal devices working in the fields. ..... The department is also responsible for supervising the health inspection services to food arriving to sea ports and Muscat International Airport.

Muscat Municipality has created an independent unit in Muscat International Airport as it is the major crossing of food services in the Sultanate. It has assigned an independent department in it and entrusted it with several tasks, including the release of food imported in the cargo terminals and to verify the dates of validity, and the statement card and suitability for human consumption, and free of prohibited substances.

In one year, the department carries out an average of two inspection campaigns, plus 2 to 3 campaigns targeting food stores in Muscat International Airport ( cargo  to terminal – airport terminal). Corrupt and un serviceable shipments of various foodstuffs such as vegetables, fruit or meat or manufactured foodstuffs are disposed after being checked by specialists in laboratories.
