Muscat Municipality Meets the Aspirations of the Arab City with Intelligent Systems

Muscat Municipality celebrates the Arab city day, which coincides on the 15th of March every year, to coincide with the organization`s 53rd anniversary. The slogan of this year`s Arab city day event, "Towards Smart Arab Cities", as a reinforcement towards smart cities.
Muscat Municipality has achieved a clear strategic vision and integrated plans in achieving sustainable development, and has worked on the use of smart systems in various fields, which translates its orientation to the interests of Arab cities organization.
In the aspect of city safety, energy conservation and project sustainability, Muscat Municipality introduced an energy-saving lighting system (LED) with the aim of improving electricity consumption, conserving energy, achieving sustainable development standards, and introducing technology to reduce maintenance and operating expenses resulting from the process of replacing traditional lighting poles with LED ones.
The Municipality is also completing its project to replace the current lighting with energy-saving lighting (LED), which began in 2018 in main streets in Muscat Governorate and Qurayat to Sur Street. The total number of lighting bulbs replaced was (7000) LED bulbs until mid-February this year, and the completion rate of the project (85%).
On another domain, Muscat Municipality installed a tracking systems to its fleet of vehicles, which aims to save journey data and hours of operation, and monitor the movements of vehicles through past and present history of tracking.
In addition to promoting the principle of green environment in transactions and reducing the rate of paper waste, the Muscat Municipality established an online document management project in accordance with a set of standards, procedures and recommended practices for electronic documentation operations in government institutions, which lead to the proper management of electronic documents. Lean standards are also present in the management of building permits.
Overall, Muscat Municipality is keen to move in line with the aspirations of sustainable cities in terms of its tireless work towards digital transformation in all its work and tasks, to upgrade municipal work according to modern technical foundations, develop and improve the services provided to beneficiaries.
