Pursuing to make Oman more competitive, Muscat Municipality now utilizes faster systems to complete municipal transactions.
• Soil investigation report is not required for buildings less than three floors
• Adjustments to the time taken in some construction permit services
• One-day building permit
• Consultancy offices are partners in development and must comply with the requirement of their membership in the Omani engineering society.
Muscat Municipality introduced recently a number of legislative measurements to ease and expedite the procedures needed to carry out municipal services. The new measurements were intended to promote Oman`s competitiveness as it is a main pillar to improve the national economy. Of the services that were tackled includes; soil investigation report, construction permits and certificates of completion of constructions. The concept of competitiveness has been developed as one of the values of municipal strategies, involving administrative and technical applications in the delivery of services, with the highest standards of quality and speed.
Of the amendments that were modified is the time consumed in obtaining a building permit for residential projects and industrial warehouses to be 5 working days, and is the same case to permits to existing buildings like modification or additions. Even certificate of completion of construction now takes 4 working days. Soil investigation report is only required in for buildings exceeding three floors and government buildings. Given that the consultancy offices are a strategic partner in development, they have been guided to abide by the membership of the Society of Engineers, Oman.
