Muscat Municipality issues a decision on the health requirements required in commercial centers
Within the efforts to maintain public health and to prevent furthering the spread of Covid19 pandemic, Muscat Municipality issued decision no. 199/2020 on the commitment of commercial centers to adhere to health requirements.
The decisions stipulated that all commercial centers are obliged to adhere a number of health requirements like; sterilizing shopping carts with approved sterilizers before and after use, disinfecting frequently touched surfaces, maintaining proper ventilation, encouraging and practicing at least 2 m of social distancing, providing disinfectant dispensers at the entrances and exits, and suspending all activities were not allowed to resume operation as per the decision of the Supreme Committee dealing with Covid19 pandemic.
The decision has also pointed out to measure the body temperatures of all staff and isolating all who show symptoms of a disease like fever, cough or runny nose. The decision urges to deny entry of people with body temperature over 37.5 degrees and to coordinate with relevant bodies in case someone is suspected to be sick. The decision also includes banning the access of children, regulating the entry of consumers in small groups and to temporarily close main gates to prevent overcrowding and not to allow a crowd inside and outside the facility, plus starting awareness-raising campaigns to encourage customers to comply with preventive measures and health requirements.
An administrative fine of 500 OMR is imposed against those who fail to employ such requirements plus closing the facility for three days, and in case the violation is repeated within two months, a fine of 2000 OMR is imposed with the closure of the facility for ten days.
The Municipality hence calls on to adhere to health requirements and to reduce visiting overcrowded paces unless extreme necessity. The Municipality invites all to contact the toll-free number (1111) in case of any questions or remarks or communications.
