Muscat Municipality: Ready Sacrifices & Online Booking Offered for Eid in Light of Covid-19
Within the attempt to halt further spread of Covid-19 pandemic in the Eid rush, Muscat Municipality coordinated with the operating company in municipal slaughterhouse to offer ready to take carcasses until the third day of Eid, and to find alternatives in emergencies.
Earlier, the operating company started carrying out maintenance to the equipment and machinery before the Eid rush. It also found alternatives to meet emergencies when the system is down or lacks a spare part. And as of Wednesday Ramadan 26th, May 20th 2020 until the third day of Eid al Fitr, Muscat Municipality slaughterhouses suspends slaughter of livestock for individuals, and allows only to buy ready carcasses offered by the operating companies. Slaughtering will be allowed only to local sheep and goats (Omani) not cows or camels in the evening period from 7 to 9 p.m.
Such measures were set by the Health Affairs unit of Muscat Municipality to meet the high demand to fresh meat in Eid al-Fitr while maintaining social distance; to avoid gatherings as the Covid19 pandemic exists. The Municipality therefor calls on everyone to take necessary preventive measures when visiting slaughterhouses and to follow the instructions when purchasing fresh meat to ensure its quality.
