Muscat Municipality to employ environmental volunteering as a human approach

•    Volunteering is a human trait before it is a social necessity that benefits both the individual and society
•    Awareness-raising campaigns and programmes to instil a culture of preserving the environment and combating the negative phenomena
•    Muscat Municipality promote initiatives in environmental development

Environmental pollution is a global problem resulting from expanding the number of population and urbanization on cities. Unfortunately, tampering with public facilities, littering and gravity are the common negative phenomena monitored by Muscat Municipality.
For this reason, a new initiative and approach was developed by Muscat Municipality to address such phenomena. The initiative employs more awareness campaigns to instil people with the volunteering culture. Fahad al-Azri, who is the head of the awareness programmes department in Muscat Municipality said that the culture of preserving the environment can be instilled through a well planned awareness campaigns carried out by our specialized cadre.
The campaigns we have carried out so far proved its efficiency on the behaviour and positive attitude about the environment. Al-Azri adds: "several meetings were held with the volunteer teams in the governorate to help them deliver the awareness messages to the community".
Apart from its role in the environment, the Municipality believes that the volunteering campaigns makes individuals more confident in themselves. Khalil al Balushi and Abdullah al Shammahi state that the campaigns can also provoke the concept of cooperation within the society, and that investment should start first in individuals themselves as we humans are an indispensable part of this environment.
