Preventive Measures for Women Beauty and Hairdressing Facilities

Muscat Municipality clarified the health requirements and preventive measures for the businesses allowed to reopen in the sixth package following coordination with the supreme committee dealing with Covid-19 pandemic.
Preventive controls:
As women beauty and hairdressing facilities reopen, they are required to adhere to a set of measures in order to halt further spread of the pandemic. All the facilities will be asked to operate at only 50% capacity with half of the chairs and workers inside facility and to keep at least 2 metres distance between each chair to avoid crowding. Workers will make sure all tools are sterilized with a UV mean and all places are disinfected, while usual cloth towels will be replaced with disposable paper ones, and of course allowing customers to bring their own towels. All facilities will keep a record of cleaning schedule and to disinfect frequently touched objects, and to forbid chatting between workers and costumers or serving food.

Services allowed in phases one and two:

Muscat Municipality has determined the services that will be allowed to be offered in the first phase of reopening businesses. Customers can now seek Hair cutting & colouring, cleaning and cutting nails, and body hair removal with wax. Provided that all these services are offered in health conditions like; to sterilise and disinfect all tools with a UV method, to use single use disposable items and to well ventilate the place. In phase two, make-up, skin care (skin cleansing), Henna and massage can be offered provided to take the set forth preventive measures, wearing PPE’s, using the disposable items, avoiding hot stone massage, bamboo sticks and to put barriers between customers.

Muscat Municipality indicates that the second phase of women`s beauty centres will be allowed only after evaluating the commitment in the first phase which will take place at the end of this week, and it is worth to mention here that the Municipality obliges all avoid the prohibitions mentioned in the article (4) of the ministerial decision 219/2019 Issuing the Regulation of the Health Requirements for Activities Relating to Public Health, which are; to avoid all kinds of cosmetic practices that penetrate the skin, or to keep customers` personal items in the facility, to do facial steaming or massaging, to carry out facial hair threading, whether using the mouth or any other method which requires close contact, to remove facial or body hair using the facility equipment, unless it is the customers, or to initiate a Moroccan bath or equivalent or to hold wedding photography, parties or social events.

The Municipality herby urges the community to be careful when seeking these services, and invites all to contact the Muscat Call Centre (1111) to report any observations or violation in such businesses.
