Muscat Municipality Takes Part in Public Squares Planing Workshop

Muscat Municipality participated in a virtual workshop organized by the Arab Town Organization and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) entitled: Towards Sustainable and accessible public spaces in the Arab countries.

The workshop aimed to examine the most prominent urban development projects and initiatives to meet the needs of communities, as well as to consider and understand the current situation and identify challenges from a regional and local perspective for good public spaces which all intend to meet the 2030 agenda in urban plan.

The workshop discussed the basics of public spaces and the benefits of investing in them, as well as the role of city leaders in improving these spaces, while discussing the definition of the concept of public spaces in the Arab context and the roles of historical and modern times

The workshop included a session to discuss the "By Block" methodology which focuses on the benefits of the participatory design approach, with a discussion and study of a number of countries that have followed this approach, in addition to a practical session on the concept of place industry in terms of concept, approach and benefits.

Dr. Hanan al Jabriyya represented Muscat Municipality in the workshop, as the Municipality is keen to join the Arab family addressing the most important issues of cities, and simultaneously following a sustainable process and meeting the needs of residents.
