Requirements and Measures of Barbershops to Alleviate COVID-19
As the Sultanate is reopening businesses in light of the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, Muscat Municipality has set the health requirements needed to alleviate COVID-19 in all establishments that deal with public health, especially in those which require close contact with people.
Structural requirements of men barbershops:
- The shop should be equipped with suitable and sufficient barber chairs, tables and mirrors.
- Equipped with basins with hot water, detergents and disinfectants.
- The shop should be equipped with a sufficient number of non-absorbent fabric and towels.
- The shop provides paper tissue (rolls) for each barber chair for a one-time use.
- Equipped with sufficient and clean white coats for barbers to use during work.
- The shop provides a first aid box containing essential emergency medical supplies and equipment.
- In case the shop offers hair dyeing or facial cleaning, a separate additional space of at least (4 m2) for each seat is required.
- Provide a basket to collect used towels to be re-washed in clean places.
- Adhere to the use of personal protective equipment.
- Provide tightly closed hairdressing gowns.
Post-Corona health requirements:
- Two-meter spacing between chairs.
- Clean and sterilize shaving chairs with sterilizers containing 70% alcohol before dealing with any customer, or use a single use plastic cover.
- Carefully wash and sterilize hands before dealing with any customer.
- Provide single-use shaving tools (razors, facial and hairbrushes, protective covers for the customer, protective covers for chairs)
- Place all plastic tools in a thermal box or UV device with the rest of the metal tools.
- Sterilize the shaving machine before the service.
- Clean and sterilize door handles, service tables and TV controls with sterilizers containing 70% alcohol.
Muscat Municipality urges everyone to cooperate fully in order to maintain public health, and calls on to contact the Muscat Communication Center (1111) to make any observations or reporting any violations.
