World Food Day: Municipal Role Maintaining Food Safety
Intensive inspection to ensure food quality
Promoting awareness on healthy and sustainable diets
Muscat Municipality joins the countries of the world celebrating the World Food Day, which coincides on October 16th of every year. This year`s slogan was "Our actions makes our future" in recognition of the need to promote healthy and safe food diets.
In this regard, Muscat Municipality adopts an intensive approach in food inspection and control so eventually to ensure consumers can receive safe and healthy food. In the wilayah of Bousher, the statistics show that Muscat Municipality carried about (11,540) inspection visits, and the number of fines issued was (160) after covering all the (3740) food establishments in Bousher, ranging from restaurants, cafés, food shops, refrigerators. Whereas the General Directorate of Muscat Municipality in Seeb made (4169) inspection visits, and issued (327) fines, and (46) times rotten food was confiscated and destroyed.
In Mutrah, the total number of inspection visits was (5482), with (76) fines issued, and the number of times rotten food destroyed was (36), as revealed by the statistics of January 2020. In the same period, Muscat Municipality in Qurayyat carried out (1935) inspection visits, and issued (29) fines, and destroying (660.72) kg of bad food.
