Integrated Service System and Promising Projects in Muscat Governorate
Muscat Municipality launches a package of service projects as part of its strategic planning in all municipal sectors. The plans and policies are set to meet Oman Vision 2040.
Muscat Municipality has been keen to prepare these plans to be a key and flexible pillar that adapts to the variables, and ensures which promote the happiness and satisfaction of the local community. The municipality moves forward in implementing cosmetic and service projects in cooperation with private entities.
Mawaleh Central Fruits and Vegetables Market to shift to Khazaen City
In a move that is aimed at boosting Oman’s wholesale vegetables and fruits industry, the current central market in Mawaleh will shift to a bigger, more advanced new facility in Khazaen Economic City. An agreement in this regard was signed in Muscat by Eng. Issam Saud Al Zadjali, President, Muscat Municipality and Eng. Kalat Ghuloom Al Bulooshi, Chairman, Khazaen Central Fruits & Vegetable Company, and Eng. Salim Suleiman Al Thuhli, CEO of Khazaen Economic City. Among the many benefits foreseen with the shift are a more organized, well-planned, fully air-conditioned and spacious market with ultra-modern facilities for wholesalers and buyers, which will translate to a lesser heavy vehicle traffic entry on Muscat’s roads.
Linear Park in Al Mubeila
Muscat Municipality signed today a memorandum of cooperation with Occidental Oman to create a 152400 sqm linear park in al Mabila South in Seeb, in a vibrant area full of urban and residential facilities close to the nearby commercial areas.
The chairman of Muscat Municipality H.E Isam al-Zidjali signed the memorandum on behalf of Muscat Municipality and Stephen Kelly (President & general manager of Occidental Oman) on behalf of Occidental Oman company, at the Muscat Municipality headquarter in Darseit.
The park was designed in accordance with quality and sustainability standards, with greater community participation, including people with disabilities. It will have a 3.2 kilometre walkway, bicycle path, children outdoor games, outdoor fitness equipment and public seating. Of course there will be green landscaping and lighting all over the park. There will be places for mobile vending units, cafés, parking lots, and restrooms.
The project aims to provide sustainable services to the local community and boost healthy lifestyles and exercise, hence contributing to the happiness of the population. Such initiatives strive to positively contribute to the public, and takes an interest in wider social issues as a result of good experiences implemented by Muscat Municipality in several locations, and all coincides with the Municipality endeavours to spread the green landscapes all Muscat.
Oman Mall
The opening of the commercial tourism complex Mall of Oman in Bousher is a result of partnership agreement between Muscat Municipality and Majid al Futtaim Group to invest, build and develop the municipal land plot in Bousher to operate the commercial tourism complex as part of the government`s drive to encourage and attract foreign investment.
Mall of Oman is the largest commercial complex in Oman that strengthens shopping and entertainment in the Muscat, and will work to develop the economy of the governorate, provide employment opportunities for citizens, in addition to other services for citizens, residents and visitors. The 15700 sqm project includes over 350 stores, 14,000 sqm indoor snow park, over 3,600 sqm of leisure & entertainment and 5,700 parking spaces.
Al Khuwair Square
The project is an investment agreement between Muscat Municipality and "Bayan Investment House LLC" so the company benefit from the municipality`s 5150 square meters plot located in Al Khuwair in the wilayah of Bausher to build a diversified commercial complex “Community Mall”.
The idea of the project came to serve the population and urban expansion, and meet the market need for a commercial complex in Al-Khuwair area with an innovative urban conception. The project is an integrated commercial complex consisting of two floors built on an area of (6000) square meters, where in the middle of the complex, there’s green space open to air with dining place to serve the visitors of the mall.
Development Project of District Six in Al Amirat
Within the efforts to construct and develop the infrastructure in Muscat, Muscat Municipality has accomplished recently a project in the wilayah of al Amirat intending to smooth the traffic flow and reduces jams.
The project was implemented in commercial district six, included the establishment of 717 parking lots, walkways, entrances and exits in an area benefiting about (39) commercial and residential buildings can benefit.
About 14500 square metre interlocking tiles used in the project, concrete barrier, 6800 metres long kerb stone, in addition to 13 public outdoor chairs in front of shops, 13 rubbish containers and green landscaping.
Outdoor Fitness Equipment in Qurm & Mutrah
As we seek to get citizens and residents of Muscat governorate to increase their exercise and combat the health risks of a sedentary lifestyle, Muscat Municipality, sponsored by the private sector, installed Outdoor Fitness Equipment in two vital sites at Muscat beaches.
The agreement resulted in (11) equipment installed at the walkway of Mutrah sea road and another (11) at al Qurm beach behind the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ms Nihad al Bulushiyya who is a specialist in Service Partnership at the Directorate General of Service Development in Muscat Municipality said that this initiative stems from our endeavor to activate the partnership between public and private sectors which provide community services and contribute to the development of Muscat Governorate.
It is fair to mention that the service partnership department at the Directorate General of service development in Muscat Municipality always search to integrate best practices towards the development of municipal services for citizens and residents, and to find a cooperative system through partnership with the private sector in the development of public services and facilities.
Water Drainage Channels in Al Khuwair
Muscat Municipality has constructed drainage channels for rainwater at the Sultan Qaboose street in al Khuwair. The work included designing and implementing quality and efficient drainage channels that ensure a smooth traffic flow in any climatic condition.
Engineer Abdullah Al Ameri, assistant director of road projects department in Muscat Municipality said that the project consists of three phases for the discharge of surface water in Al Khuwair area. The first phase was to construct a rainwater drainage channel that is (1115 ) meters long, starting from the ministries street until the sea. The closed canal consists of three cells with a total width of 8 metres, and 1.5 high. The project was started in the third quarter of 2017, and the basic works of its first phase were completed by the end of 2019.
