New Metered Parking Space Comes to Effect on March 6th 2022
Pursuant to administrative decision 151/2016 issuing the regulation governing the use of public parking lots in Muscat, and endeavouring to enhance traffic flow and order, Muscat Municipality wishes to announce on adding the following car parks as metered parking spaces, effective March 6th 2022; Car parks that surround the Sultan Mosque in Ruwi, car parks adjacent to the Sultan Qaboos Street in Southern Al-Khuwair and opposite the commercial buildings, and the new car parks at Al-Khoud souk, and the ones behind Ooredoo store.
The measure aims to make the most appropriate use of parking lots in Muscat, and to meet the growing urbanization and population density, which is marked by the increasing number of vehicles. The initiative will also address the phenomena of abandoned vehicles, which hinders traffic flow and ruins the aesthetic appearance of modern urban facades.
The parking meters will operate daily in two periods, from 8 am to 1 pm, and from 4 pm to 9 pm, except Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays announced by the concerned authorities. People who wish to reserve a car park can use one of the following methods;
Reserve via SMS:
- Compose an SMS to 90091 containing your car number & code and the time period required (multiples of 30 to a maximum of 300 minutes). For example, (0000AB 30).
- You will receive a confirmation SMS which contains: the ticket number, car number & code, date and time of the reservation.
- Should you need to extend the time period, send another SMS to 90091 following the same steps.
Reserve via Baladiyeti app or Muscat Municipality website:
You can use Baladiyeti app or website mm.gov.om to reserve a car park for hours. You can also obtain or renew a parking permit or inquire about or pay fines.
