Pests and rodents can pose serious health risks to human being as they carry many types of pathogens. The pest control division of Muscat Municipality plays a major role in limiting the spread of pests and rodents in Muscat governorate. The work starts by implementing periodic control programmes which target breeding grounds of pests and rodents and carrying out surveys to identify the type and characteristics of pests and rodents, and their breeding places and behaviour.
Control methods begin with the detection of rodents, which can be seen in bites found on wood and goods or even in fingerprints or holes. After observing any of these signs, the place is then treated mechanically or chemically or, closing all holes and openings. Mechanical control methods rely on tools and adhesive traps, or demolition of burrows. The chemical control uses toxic pills and wax cubes. Prevention can also address the roots of the pests in the places of its reproduction, like in sewage holes, abandoned houses, cemeteries and rubbish.
